A big Thank You To Sonny

Good Morning,

Today I have a special message for everyone on this team but first and foremost, I would like to express my deepest gratitude to an important member of your team…Sonny Melendrez. We do not stop and “smell the roses” enough and for the longest time, I have wanted to publicly thank Sonny for all he does for all of us. First a thank you for his friendship and secondly, thanks for bringing his experience and commitment to this company to add another weight in favor of our success.
We are all very blessed to have a man of Sonny’s stature, experience and integrity on this team. Sonny is a legend in the radio industry (inducted to the Texas Radio Hall of Fame in 2004) and has been a part of some of the most memorable fortune 500 company branding campaigns in history. I remember as a kid the Parkay Butter commercials where the lid said “BUTTER..BUTTER..PARKAY!.” Who would have known that someday I would be that butter lids partner in business and I would be officing 50 feet away from him!  Sonny has been in movies (Rocky II) and even had his own Disney TV show (You and Me Kid) for almost 13 years! Listening to Sonny on the radio as a teen and watching him on TV as a child makes it even more special for me as CEO of this company to have him on this team and committed to the overall success in branding BVD for long term recognize-ability. This plays to your advantage as a Founder in this company.

This weekend I saw a side of Sonny that I knew was there but never experienced for an entire day…

San Antonio Texas is the 8th largest city in the United States. This city like many others has community centers that are designed to help the areas of town that are less fortunate. San Antonio has many, however there is one community center in this city that is unique. Here is why. Of all the community centers in San Antonio, NONE are named after any living person or contributor except this one. This weekend, I was honored to spend a day with Sonny Melendrez at the Sonny Melendrez Community Center on San Antonio’s West Side.  What I saw and experienced brought tears to my eyes and impacted my son and me forever. We witnessed people of all ages and all ethnicities attending the center for a day of community service. We saw children of all ages who live in the area there for a day of joy in a neighborhood where there are no malls, movie theaters, or other upscale entertainment venues. It was truly inspiring.
Sonny’s name graces the center for a reason. He is a giver and has a heart the size of the city. The people that approached him to thank him for what he does reinforced what I already knew. I am working with a man who is in this world to serve.  Sonny is the type of person who goes out of his way to show compassion for people.
All of these attributes combined with his being an entrepreneur, motivational speaker, broadcaster, a dreamer and believer in “what can be” has made him a vital ingredient to our overall plan of reaching huge success with this company for all of you who have believed and worked so hard to be a part of something much bigger than ourselves.

Thanks Sonny for all you do and we (the Founders and this company) are grateful for what you do each day to bring BVD to the levels of the companies you have represented over the past 35 years that today are Billion dollar+ companies!

Some of you will have the honor of meeting Mr. Melendrez someday in person or by phone. When you do, know this. You are meeting a legend in the entertainment and radio industry and one of the most brilliant marketing/branding experts you will ever meet.
